An evening with Derek Paravicini Quartet for World Autism Awareness Day

Informed Choice are delighted to be sponsoring an evening the Derek Paravicini Quartet in Cranleigh in celebration of World Autism Awareness Day.

The concert, in aid of local charity Jigsaw Trust, takes place at 7.30pm on 2nd April 2015 at the Cranleigh Arts Centre.

Derek Paravicini is one of the most extraordinary pianists and musical entertainers of his generation. Yet he is blind, autistic and has severe learning difficulties.

Dubbed ‘The Human iPod’ in the United States, Derek has a repertoire of tens of thousands of pieces – all learnt rapidly, just by listening.

Derek’s unique musical abilities are recognised all over the world.

Now, along with three exceptional musicians, Derek has formed his own ensemble – the Derek Paravicini Quartet, featuring Hannah Davey (vocals), Ben Holder (violin) and Ollie Howell (drums).

Recently debuting on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ programme and currently playlisted on Jazz FM, the Derek Paravicini Quartet provide new takes on classic songs and jazz standards, with a repertoire from ragtime to Radiohead, from Irving Berlin to the Beatles, from Cole Porter to Coldplay.

2nd April each year is now firmly established, following the 2008 UN Declaration, as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD).

Jigsaw Trust has long supported WAAD by hosting awareness events and participating in the global ‘Light it up Blue’ campaign.
