Divorce & generosity

I am sure the words “divorce” and “generosity” have been used in the same sentence before but perhaps not that often.

The law firm Withers has completed a study that suggests divorce settlements in England are likely to result in generous maintenance payments over a longer period than in 13 other countries including the US, South Africa New Zealand and a number of European countries.

Apparently Judges in England and Wales can take into account a broader range of issues than in many other countries.

Certainly we see a lot of Pension Sharing Orders being granted so that one spouse’s pension fund is shared with the other spouse.

The Transferee is often left with some difficult choices about how to invest and manage their pension share particularly where an external share of the Cash Equivalent Value is the only option available to them.

So generosity can also come hand in hand with a need to take action and certainly that is where independent and impartial advice from a qualified and experienced Chartered Financial Planner is a value service to seek.
