The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,488.65, up 103.97 points or +1.93% on the day and up 22.29 points (+0.41%) over the week.

Stock markets across Europe performed strongly on Friday, buoyed by hopes of a swift and decisive resolution to the eurozone sovereign debt crisis. Banks delivered strong returns and the mining sector benefited from a rally in metals prices.

Over a year the FTSE 100 has fallen from 5,757.90, a fall of 269.25 points or -4.68%.

£1 is currently worth $1.59550 US or €1.14820 Euros.

Brent Crude Oil Futures is currently priced at $109.75/barrel. Gold is $1,642.50/ounce and Silver is $30.80/ounce.

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 5.2% for the year to September 2011.
