The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,572.28, up 5.51 points or +0.10% on the day and up 59.58 points (+1.08%) over the week.

Trading on Friday brought a close to a turbulent year for global stock markets in 2011.

Most of the major markets, with the exception of the US, finished the year in negative territory.

A continual theme throughout the year has been the eurozone sovereign debt crisis, damaging investor confidence and feeding volatility into the markets.

Over a year the FTSE 100 has fallen from 5,971.00, a fall of 398.72 points or -6.68%.

£1 is currently worth $1.55320 US or €1.19840 Euros.

Brent Crude Oil Futures is currently priced at $107.59/barrel. Gold is $1,570.00/ounce and Silver is $28.18/ounce.

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 4.8% for the year to November 2011.
