Saturday was the 68th Cranleigh Show, something of an institution in our village and certainly a highlight of the annual social calendar (right up there with the Cranleigh Bonfire).

The Cranleigh Show is a traditional agricultural show with plenty of family entertainment and over 200 trade stands, so lots of opportunities for shopping.

Since the introduction of the Prudential Ride London cycling event, part of the Olympic legacy, the Cranleigh Show has been held on a Saturday for the past couple of years, rather than its usual Sunday timeslot.

We didn’t have the opportunity to visit as a family last year, due to the timing of our holiday, but this year we were keen to go along and find out how the Cranleigh Show had changed now it took place on a Saturday.

It was a fantastic family day out; definitely a different feel being held on a Saturday, and possibly a little quieter than in previous years, but there was plenty to see and do for the entire day.

A highlight for me was watching a display by Matt Coulter (The Kangaroo Kid) and his son Sam.

Matt and Sam are motorbike stuntmen, riding quad bikes and generally engaging in dangerous activities. Here’s a short video I recorded of when Matt jumped a 4×4, a skip lorry and an electric car on his quad bike:

Spoiler alert: he makes it across and lands safely.

We also enjoyed the equine competitions (Becky is keen to get her horse Bertie up to speed to enter one of these next year) and the companion dog show, where our Labrador Rosie received three rosettes in the Best Pedigree Working Dog, Child Handler and Best Local Dog categories.

If you live within a reasonable distance of Cranleigh and haven’t been along before, we recommend a visit to the Cranleigh Show next year.

Also coming up soon is the Peaslake Village Fayre on August Bank Holiday Monday, which always proves to be a brilliant traditional village event.
